A MAGICAL SUBSTANCE FLOWS INTO ME

The Palestinian artist Jumana Manna follows in the footsteps of the German ethnomusicologist Dr. Robert Lachmann. After he lost his job in 1935 because he was Jewish, he moved to Jerusalem. There he created a twelve-part radio program in which members of various local communities performed their music. With her filmic visits to Kurdish, Moroccan and Yemenite Jews, Samaritans, Bedouins and Coptics, among others, Manna shows how these musical traditions are carried on - and illustrates the cultural diversity in Palestine.
