A League of their Own
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN transports us to wartime America: while the men are fighting on the front lines, necessity gives rise to an explosive idea—a professional women’s baseball league to keep the national pastime alive. Players from all corners of the country come together, among them the very different sisters Dottie and Kit, whose relationship is shaped equally by rivalry and affection.
Under the guidance of the initially reluctant but ultimately teachable coach Jimmy Dugan, the women endure grueling training sessions and public skepticism, as well as confront their own ambitions. Caught between glamour, performance pressure, and team spirit, they fight not only for victories, but for respect—on the field and beyond.
With wit and heart, the film shows how women carve out space for themselves in a clearly male-dominated world. It makes visible how talent and professionalism must constantly battle prejudice and superficial expectations. Rather than preaching, it relies on strong characters, solidarity, and (female) self-confidence. It presents equality as a lived practice—combative, humorous, and without pathos.
