A Great Place to Call Home
In a small town somewhere in Pennsylvania, Milton (Sir Ben Kingsley) spends an unexcited old age between gardening, community meetings and memory training. As the widower becomes increasingly odd, his comments at community meetings are rarely taken seriously. His small town, for example, urgently needs a more suitable slogan, says Milton, because "A Great Place to Call Home" is simply too ambivalent... When a UFO crash lands in Milton's flowerbed one night, nobody wants to believe the old man - not the emergency services, not the cashier at the supermarket and certainly not the local council. Nevertheless, Milton takes the extraterrestrial visitor with a penchant for apples into his home. Milton's slightly quirky neighbours Sandy (Harriet Harris) and Joyce (Jane Curtin) soon discover the unusual flatmate with the understanding eyes and take him straight to their hearts. Complicity becomes companionship - and neighbours become friends... until the government takes action and starts looking for the alien.
A GREAT PLACE TO CALL HOME tells the story of the never-ending opportunity to call home with a lot of humour, great warmth and an extraterrestrial sense of interpersonal community. A clever and touching comedy about the late meaning of life and the desire for adventure, in which Oscar®-winner Ben Kingsley (GANDHI) reminds us why he is one of the best actors of his generation.
