A Better Place – Episode 1: Stadt ohne Knast
SUPPORTING FILM: VORSICHT HADERER (1992)
DIRECTOR: ULRICH SEIDL
WITH: MARIA HOFSTÄTTER, GERHARD HADERER
LENGTH: 29 MIN
In the presence of Maria Hofstätter and Ulrich Seidl
As a prelude, we open the bracket from the first to the most recent role. Maria Hofstätter reveals her cabaret genius in the docu-fiction VORSICHT HADERER when she talks about her ‘celebrity neighbour’, the caricaturist Gerhard Haderer, while appearing like one of his characters made flesh. The television rarity also marks the first collaboration with Ulrich Seidl. The eight-part Canal+ production A BETTER PLACE, the first episode of which can be seen here, is very recent. In the fictional German town on the Rhine, a utopia becomes reality: a town without prisons. As criminal psychologist Petra Schach, Hofstätter plays a leading role in the politically motivated project and tries to convince the population of her vision. (Florian Widegger)
