France in the 1950s: student Suzon returns from England to the snow-covered family home for Christmas. All her relatives are there, but there is no sign of Suzon's father, the only man in the house. When the maid finds him the next morning with a knife in his back and his sister Pierrette unexpectedly appears at the door, suspicion grows among the eight women. As no one can have left the property because of the heavy snowfall, it soon becomes clear that one of them must be the murderer.
