Lionel, a train conductor in Paris, lives with his daughter Joséphine in a household characterized by mutual trust and an almost wordless harmony. The balance begins to shift as people from their circle become more involved in their lives: Gabrielle, who has harbored feelings for Lionel for years, and Noé, a young neighbor who both attracts and unsettles Joséphine. Denis tells the story of a father-daughter relationship at a turning point, of bonds, and of growing older as a transition. A portrait emerges of people who care for one another yet must learn to go their separate ways. A nighttime outing, an unexpected stop, and a shared celebration crystallize these changes into a decisive turning point.
