25/P8: Von Pferden und Rentieren
BERGHUFE – LE SABOT MONTAGNARD
FR 2024, Ashley Parsons & Quentin Boehm, 54 min, OV with subtitles
MONGOLIAN REINDEER HERDERS – WINTER TAIGA
FR 2024, Dominique Snyers, 45 min, OV with subtitles
Two films that explore the bond between humans and animals:
BERGHUFE follows Ashley and Quentin on a 3,000-kilometre horseback journey across the Alps as they set out to bring their three Kyrgyz horses back home. Their ride through Austria becomes a gently humorous reflection of the country: full of surprisingly open-minded people, yet also full of endless roads and motorways.
WINTER TAIGA begins like a fairy tale: a reindeer sled gliding across frozen ice in northern Mongolia. This is where Magsar and Ankhaa live with their children — and with their 1,000 reindeer. For the first time, they welcome guests from the West during winter. In the midst of cold, confinement, and danger, the clichés quickly dissolve: melting snow for water, sharing food, fending off wolves — and in the end, only the essential remains: the universal power of community. Between humans and animals, and between humans themselves.
