25/P2: El Capitan
GIRL CLIMBER
Emily Harrington is one of the world's top sport climbers. She has been US lead climbing champion five times and is the first woman in the world to have mastered routes with a difficulty rating of 11 minus. She has already stood on Mount Everest and Cho Oyu, but her greatest challenge awaits her not on another 8,000-metre peak, but on the smooth granite wall of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley: climbing the Golden Gate route in under 24 hours. With the support of free solo legend Alex Honnold, Emily Harrington is edging closer to the seemingly impossible. For her, it's not just about setting another record. Caught between personal ambitions, the pressure of a male-dominated scene and her ticking biological clock, she has to ask herself what price she is willing to pay. A near-fatal fall makes her realise how thin the line between triumph and disaster is.
GIRL CLIMBER shows Emily Harrington's struggle for recognition, self-determination and the realisation of a dream. Great American climbing cinema and an Austrian premiere at the Mountain Film Festival.
