LOCAL HEROES have been an integral part of the Mountain Film Festival since 2018. With 38 short films shown so far, young filmmakers from Salzburg have had the opportunity to present their stories to a large audience. We are continuing this concept again this year with a colourful and diverse programme covering mountain sports and seasons: Outdoor inline skating – on huge tyres along steep paths, by bike and tent to the Mediterranean and then on foot across the Pyrenees to the Atlantic, a piano concert on the Niederen Dirndl on the Dachstein and a young athlete from Pongau on the challenging route to the Dientner Klingspitz, a ‘micro-adventure’.

We also meet two artists from Brazil and South Africa who discovered their great love for the mountains in Salzburg. We go on a long hike through North America with Helena Algermissen, a German-born molecular biologist and new Salzburg resident: from Canada to Mexico, 4,270 kilometres, alone, always along the legendary Pacific Crest Trail. And finally, there's a concentrated dose of snowboarding action: Niklas Vogt and a few mates, including Fabio Riedl, have made an old-school snowboarding film. Not much talking, just awesome jumps, loud music and a devil-may-care attitude.
