23/P2: Abenteuer Island
There are films about professional mountaineers and there are films about amateurs - the latter are usually funnier. This is undoubtedly the case with BUDDIES ON ICE. Linz-based adventure educator Christian Korherr and his Munich buddy, filmmaker Markus Henssler, "der Deitsche", want to cross Vatnajökull. On foot, with touring skis and a towing sledge for luggage and food. 150 kilometres through a hostile, gigantic ice desert. Although the two city dwellers are passionate outdoor freaks, they are by no means professionals in the eternal ice. So they show their mistakes, shortcomings and doubts in the film. This makes them tangible as normal people who live and share their great passion for nature and travelling with us.
The professional part of the programme is provided by top Swiss alpinist Dani Arnold. He is known for his breathtaking solo ascents on the great north faces, but right at the beginning of the film JÖTNAR he makes it clear: "There is another part of me, the adventure, the discovery, going out in the morning and not knowing what the day will bring."
