What is ROMEO + JULIA about?
Verona Beach, a city of millions, is characterised by fear, violence and crime and is ruled by the two feuding Montague and Capulet families, whose hatred is passed down from generation to generation. Romeo and Juliet, the only children of the two patriarchs Ted Montague and Fulgencio Capulet, have grown up in this merciless world. At a glamorous masked ball organised by the Capulets to match Juliet with a noble businessman, Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time – and it is love at first sight. Romeo is then unmasked by Juliet’s nephew Tybalt and has to leave the ball with his friends. But he hides in the garden and climbs up to Juliet’s balcony to confess his eternal love to her. While Romeo and Juliet secretly make plans to marry, dark clouds are already gathering, as Tybalt wants revenge for the affront at the masked ball. He kills Romeo’s best friend Mercutio….
