What is NOCH LANGE KEINE LIPIZZANER about?
“Power comes from the people”, says the Austrian constitution – but who are the people when over a third of the population in Vienna is now not entitled to vote?
Naturalization seems to be a real “struggle” in Austria. This is also the case for director Olga Kosanović, who, although born and raised in Austria, has not yet been able to obtain citizenship. In a commentary on her case in a daily newspaper, someone wrote: “If a cat gives birth to kittens at the riding school, that doesn’t make them Lipizzaners”. Demarcation creates a sense of identity and cohesion: a strong sense of “we”. What concept of identity underlies legislation that divides society into “us” and “the others”? A film about belonging – and the director’s second attempt to (finally) belong. With actors and interviewees such as Toxische Pommes, Judith Kohlenberger, Robert Menasse and many more.
With playful ease, humor and the help of many experts, we get to know the citizenship system in Austria, its abysses, absurdities and pitfalls. The question arises: “How Austrian are you?” or “What is a real Austrian?” – the potential for discussion is enormous!
